Xiaomi Android 16 Update is coming faster than usual and with Beta 3 it has already reached the platform stability milestone. Xiaomi has come forward by releasing their Android 16 Developer Preview Program for two phones.
Xiaomi Android 16 Update is now available
The Xiaomi 15 and 14 Pro are close test subjects with the former launching with Android 15, while the latter was originally using Android 14. So this is its second major update. These are the two main platforms, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek Dementia 9300 Plus. If the name is not clear, this release is for developers who want to test their apps on Android 16 and try out the new APIs and features.
If you want to try the beta, you will need to update your phone first. The Xiaomi Mi 10 will be running OS 2.0.109.0.vokmix, while the 14 Pro will be running OS 2.0.103.0 Mix or later. There are two methods of updating, one is to use the local update feature. You can download the ROM from the Xiaomi Android Beta page, then go to Settings and select the ROM to install.
If you want to go back to the current OS version, you can also download the ROM for Android 15/Hyper OS 2. The other update method boots faster and requires you to have an unlocked bootloader. So the local update method is better. Keep in mind that this will wipe your data so back it up first.
There is an Android Beta Feedback app built into the ROM, so if you encounter any issues with the software, you can send a report to Xiaomi. Last year, Google started rolling out Android 15 to Pixel phones in mid-October. Xiaomi announced Hyper OS 2 at the end of October and released the update to Xiaomi 14 just a few days later. Google is expected to release the stable version of Xiaomi Android 16 Update 16 in May.
